The Olympic torch will be carried through Southport on Friday 1st June On of June 1 the famous flame will be carried through Southport, Birkdale, Ainsdale, Formby and Crosby with thousands of expected to line the streets. The convoy heads to Southport’s King George V college with torchbearers running along Scarisbrick New Road, onto Eastbank Street, continuing onto Lord Street, Lulworth Road and Waterloo Road. The convoy will then head to Ainsdale along Liverpool Road.Torchbearers then reach Formby and run along Altcar Road before turning left onto Liverpool Road. In Crosby the relay starts by Blundellsands Road West/Warren Road before heading along Warren Road, onto The Serpentine South, Burbo Bank Road and Mariners Road.

Banks Carnival is Back 4th June 2012 It will be held in honour of the ‘Queens Diamond Jubilee’ at the Hesketh Avenue Park; Banks Village. The event which will include a traditional ‘Float Procession’ will celebrate both the heritage and current era of the Village. Events on the park will include competitions such as Tug-a-War and Five-a-Side football will take place throughout the day as well as BMX and Skate Boarding displays. Craft and fair stalls will be available with Bouncy Castles, Face-painting and Traditional fun-fair games to help with the day’s enjoyment a full fun packed day, with entertainment to suit every age group. The Banks Morris Dancers’ who are coming out of retirement to perform at our event. As a finale to the day’s activities, a special ‘open air’ concert will be performed in the Park by Banks Brass Band. The Band will perform a ‘Last Night of the Proms’ concert which they hope will encourage both young and old to wave there Union Jacks with pride. “It’s not too late for people to get involved and in particular local Businesses We are looking for Farmers to provide Tractors and Trailers and Businesses to take up a pitch on the day.Interested?
